Media Log #2: Silence of love

Coincidentally, the second commercial I chose has another parent-child relationship theme. This commercial is created by Thai Life Insurance to advertise their company. This time, it messes with our emotions in a significantly different way. The main component used was pathos. We would usually sympathize towards a born-death man. In this ad, they went to an even further extreme by having the caring death-mute man play a father with a very unloving daughter. Throughout the ad, we can see why the daughter is unloving; she gets harassed and bullied in school. Many conflicts come out of those devices til the point where she tries to commit suicide. This is also where human emotions become our subconscious. The way they structure the attempted suicide and flashbacks really create the fitting mood for an emotional advertising video.  It just adds to the rising tension. The nearing end is located in a hospital. That messes with our subconscious too because it implies that we have more of a reason to buy it in case we end up there. The use of emotion is just to much to take in these three minutes. It was signaling to buy insurance from their company. The last few sentences really brought the overall together. "There are no perfect fathers. But a father will always love perfectly. Remember to care for those who care for you." By buying their insurance for a loved one, we are caring for that loved one. The word "remember" is used to remind us of the common sense but somehow, it has more meaning in it. It has more meaning because they exampled it. That's what makes the whole thing so effective.
